Mission and Values
The UUEstrie Mission
We are a liberal spiritual community, bound by no dogma, restricted by no creed. The purpose of this fellowship is to bring religious liberals into closer acquaintance and cooperation. Relying upon reason as our guide and upon freedom as our method, we seek to grow in understanding of ourselves and of our world, and to serve others. We wish to share our legacy of religious freedom and acceptance with the larger world, and to offer a place of safety, support and challenge for all who share our values.
- Human Rights in a Progressive Society. We affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person; the importance of love and compassion in all human relations; the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process; and the goal of a peaceful, equitable, world community with liberty and justice for all people. We welcome all without distinction according to gender or sexual orientation, race or ethnicity, or other form of discrimination. We covenant to accept one another and honour the different ways people seek and live the truth.
- An Evolving, Inclusive Spirituality. In our weekly worship we seek to nourish individual and collective spiritual growth by trusting the universe, affirming life, welcoming doubt, and seeking joy together. We encourage each person’s freedom of thought and practice in their search for truth and meaning, as well as their sense of duty to exercise this freedom responsibly. We believe that revelation is not sealed, and acknowledge many sources of inspiration for our ethical and spiritual life, including direct personal experience, words and deeds of prophetic women and men, and wisdom from world religions.
- Ecological Consciousness. We promote humility and respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. We acknowledge that, while we are but one species of many on earth, the sustainability and future evolution of the earth and all life upon it are now determined by what we humans do, and require of us an understanding of the universe and our place and purpose in it.
